An underfunded market is an opportunity, not a cause.

Female-founded businesses deliver returns 35 to 63% higher than their male-founded counterparts. Yet less than 2% of UK venture capital goes to them, a figure that has barely moved in a decade, and 86% of UK angel investors are men. That's not a diversity statistic. It's a mispricing.

Membership first. Investing, if and when you choose.

  1. 01

    Join as a member.

Annual or monthly. Membership is separate from any investment you make, and your fee is never invested in a company.

  2. 02

    Learn the ground rules.

Sessions and plain-English guides on how early-stage investing actually works: terms, dilution, risk, and building a portfolio rather than making one bet.

  3. 03

Meet the founders we choose to host.

A handful a year, each with a written brief covering the business and the investment they are looking for. Then a founder story session, where you ask the questions you'd want answered before deciding anything.

  4. 04

Decide, one company at a time.

If you want to invest, we'll walk you through the process before you commit. Whether to invest, and how much, is always your decision.

Everything around the decision, not just the deal.

  • A room of peers.

Quarterly dinners and regular drinks with professional women at the same stage as you, facing the same decisions. The connections you make there matter well beyond any single investment.

  • Founder stories, on your time.

Profiles and progress updates from the founders members back, in the good quarters and the hard ones, so you can follow along without always being in the room.

You don't need to have done this before.

XX Invest is built for professional women who want to back female-founded businesses and haven't had an obvious way in. You don't need experience in venture capital. You don't need a network in early-stage investing. You don't need hours to spare. What we ask is that you read the detail before you invest. That part is on you, and it matters.

Early-stage investing is only open to people who meet criteria set by the UK government, not by us. Broadly, that means an annual income over £100,000, or net assets over £250,000 not counting your home or pension. There are other routes for people with relevant investment experience, and you'll confirm which applies to you when you join.

Built by people who've been in the room.

Julia Elliott Brown

Founder, board chair and strategic advisor to female founders. Julia built her own business, Upper Street, and raised close to £2m for it, then spent the decade since working with founders on fundraising, growth and governance. She has seen, repeatedly, how the system quietly leaves capable women with capital on the sidelines.

Sam Cooper-Gray

Former Global Head of SME Strategy at HSBC, where she led a $1bn Female Entrepreneur Debt Fund. Now Chair of The Gender Index and lead of the Conditions to Scale workstream for the UK Government's Invest in Women Taskforce. Sam has spent 25 years making the economic case for backing women, and building the infrastructure to do it.
